About

I thought myself well acquainted with grief and suffering; my niece with a rare life threatening disease, death of my brother’s young wife after the birth of their fourth child, death of 2 moms and 1 dad amongst our daughter’s friends in third grade, cancer and death of our dear friend, death of my uncle who was like a dad to us, working for years as Registered Nurse at Stanford Children’s Hospital, infertility… to list a few. Yet I found I was still unprepared for the pain I would experience as we walked with my beloved sister, Ter, through cancer; a reality known by many, yet shockingly disorienting. Often, I was surprised that my heart could and would continue beating through the overwhelming anguish. She fought a breathtaking battle with beauty, grace and humor and went Home in victory to her Lord, Savior and Friend after 3 years.

Jesus said in this world we will have trouble (John 16:30). At times I am bewildered that He does not promise or provide ease for those who love Him. This is certainly what I would do for loved ones. But He patiently, thoroughly and consistently teaches me that His Ways are not mine; His Thoughts are so much higher than my own. These revelations are filled with Amazing Grace and Rescue for the drowning soul. I find it incredulous that our Mighty God can translate and transform that which seems destined for utter destruction; from ugly, excruciating pain and despair emerge victory, strength, beauty and rest. He is indeed the Miracle Worker!

This site contains neither quick fixes nor an “I’m all better” attitude. No, the road remains overwhelming, impossible, hot and beaten…BUT because of Jesus, it is indeed the sweetest path I have ever known!

Vikki Fiorenza lives in California with her husband, Rico, who has loved her through the unpleasant places of her journey and their miracle daughter who has taught her to love in ways she never imagined possible. They are blessed with an amazing and very large extended family-although the gaping hole left by Terri’s death stuns us most every day.

Vikki is deeply grateful to her nephew, Bo, who has been able to put to computer what God has been putting in her heart.

  1. Vikki, you rock! And knowing you, that comment will make you uncomfortable as you really want eyes on Jesus, not you – and that’s what makes you rock my dear friend! I am excited about this journey and am honored to be able to share it by reading your honest reflections. thanks for being brave enough to do this.

PS Rico says he is going to start a blog-“Scorched Kitchen, starring Vikki”. Yea, he’s still a real funny guy…excuse me while I go kick his butt! Love to you!
